Built
in 1965, Barrie Speedway was the first paved stock car racing facility north
of Toronto and has been home to Canada's most exciting stock car action ever
since. The track was originally built as a tight 1/4 mile oval, the
configuration very similar in shape to Martinsville Speedway. The track was
widened and the banking was increased in 1999.
The track has been continually renovated and improved since a new
ownership group took over in 1999. A new sound system was put in in 1999,
new washrooms, heated grandstands and a state-of-the-art lighting system are
all recent upgrades. Countless improvements have been made to the grounds,
including provisions wheelchair accessibility. Barrie Speedway prides itself
on being a fun, family-oriented facility
A massive expansion of the track itself was undertaken in the fall of 2004.
